All of the jewelry seen on this website is made completely by Darlene Armstrong or her husband Travis Ogden in their jewelry studio in the USA. Each piece is hand fabricated using Sterling Silver, Fine Silver, 14Kt., 18 Kt., 22Kt., 24 Kt. Gold, Precious and Semi-Precious Stones, Pearls and other materials, including colorful Dichroic Glass cabochons which Darlene also creates for their designs.
The techniques used to accomplish these original designs include sawing out metals, piercing these with either a drill bit or a hand saw, annealing with a torch and forging metal with various hammers and stakes. Filing, soldering, fusing, hand stamping for texture, using a roll mill to impress designs onto the metals. Glass cutting and kiln fusing Dichroic Glass cabochons. Cutting rough rock materlals, shaping and polishing these stones with various grit diamond wheels and polishing compounds, and perhaps drilling a hole in a stone with a diamond drill bit will help to create some of the stones needed to complete whatever design is in process. These stones are then set into bezels and patinas may be applied to the metals for dramatic color effect. Generally we will need to repeat several of these processes during the building of a piece in order to complete it.
We feel it is of utmost importance to take the extra time and care it requires to build and finish a piece correctly .
To be a good metalsmith, one must master many, many technical skills and be able to translate effectively an mental idea into physical form using these many skills.
Each piece is stamped with the Armstrong Jewelry Hallmark and also stamped with the metals used to make the piece.
